>"Commander...Lieutenant...let me ask you a question while we have a moment. >Once this crisis is over, would you like to do an officer exchange so we can get you >some experience in R&D HQ?"
>McTiernan was caught off guard by the question. It was definitely off topic. He >glanced over to Lorenna to see her reaction. From the look on her face, she was >definitely surprised, but she hid it well.
>"I am not sure that we would do well in R&D, sir. Neither of our fields are technology >based."
Lorin shrugged, "Your choice-I figured it'd get you two a break from the station."
McTiernan was about to respond when the Admiral was called out of the room to speak with Admiral Lasiter. While he was gone, he considered the offer. He had to admit that he wanted to consider it He had enjoyed commanding the research facility ... at least, until now. The team had worked well together, and they had had no problems with meeting their research objectives. The problem was he could not handle the crises. One of the reasons he had accepted command of the station was that he assumed there would be none. Who had heard of anything happening in the Sol System?
He glanced toward the Lorenna. He knew that she could sense his feelings because of her Betazoid background, but he wondered if she even needed to use her abilities to sense his feelings.
She reached out a hand and put it on his. "You know there is no dishonor in admitting that you aren't ready, Ian."
He nodded. He knew that she would not give up her position. She loved being on a small reasearch facility.
Lorin walked back into the room and took his seat, "Please excuse my
absence..." "McTiernan nodded. "Not a problem, sir. I think I would like to hear more about your offer at some point. I am not sure that I am quite right for command." (Admiral?)
