Jared turned toward Lasiter. "Perhaps a quick drink before we both
head off to our bunks?" he asked.
"Why not...", he sat down where Lorin had been sitting. "So, what's keeping you interested in going to work these days?", Lasiter said starting up some chit-chat until a server came over for the order. Jared was glad to see that Sam had sat down with him. It would give him a chance to see for himself about his old friend's state of mind. "Well, being a judge tends to leave you with a chance to see just about anything on a given day, though, being called back to Earth by the CinC is definitely something new for me," he said as he downed the his drink to await the barmaid's return. Just then Beatrice came over. She recognized Admiral Lasiter and could
not help but feel a bit of pity over his recent experiences. "Well,
newbie, it looks like you already burned through your first drinking
partner. It looks like you had to bring in the big brass for real
competition."
Jared couldn't help but laugh. "I gather you know the Admiral,
Beatrice?"
The woman felt her eyebrow rise. She was impressed that he already
knew her name. This one was definitely going to be a major player.
"Who on Spacedock desn't kno de big guy. 'e's the one who keeps de fleet
running," she said as she winked at the CinC in a friendly manner.
Lasiter managed to crack a smile. "Well, I have some help..."
"So, what kin ah get ye gents?"
"How about glass of Harp, and how about some of your famous pot
roast?"
"Aye, Ah think ah ken handle that, Adm'ral," said Beatrice. She
glanced at Jared. "'Nother pint o' Guinness for you?"
Jared just nodded.
Beatrice left to go get there order.
Jared watched herself and chuckled. "I could definitely have used
someone like that where I have been stationed for the last couple of
years. Too many lawyers and judges means too much seriousness."
(Lasiter?)
