The old man stood tall, defying the many years efforts to bow his
shoulders.  He continued, switching to Standard, "I was just explaining to Carrhae that I was on my way to Terra from Vulcan for a lecture on Rihannsu military
strategy when Kalina called.  Otherwise, I would not have been able to attend."

"No doubt our God and the Elements have conspired to make this event possible," the priest said.

"Carrhae has been reticent in telling me anything about her intended.  Perhaps
you can enlighten an old man who is, perhaps, still too protective of she who
has been like a daughter to me."

"I shall see about that when I meet the young man," tr'Llhweiir said.  He said
the words lightly, but one could still sense a seriousness in the voice and,
especially, in the eyes.

He might have left the service many years ago, but clearly the service had not
left him.

"I trust you shall not find him too much lacking, sir," Father Patrick said, but there was warmth in his eyes.

Carrhae stepped in.  "I, too, thank you for coming this evening,
Father.  Please be seated, both of you," she said offering him one of the chairs at the small table where her grandfather had been seated moments earlier.
"Thank you.  Matthew has great fondness for both his Irish Catholic heritage and for the beliefs and tenets of the Rihannsu," he said.  "He mentioned that this ceremony would only be right were it an amalgam of those two.  Assuming, he was quick to point out, that would be acceptable to you as well."
