He turned to Carrhae and gave her a final kiss upon her cheek and whispered
something in her ear.  He then looked at Matt and bowed, then he stepped back
and stood as if guarding them both.

> To Carrhae he asked, <[And this union is agreeable to you?]>

<[It is,]> she stated.

> <[I trust we can dispense with the pre-bonding negotiations over
> dowery and trusts, and I equally, feverently, hope there are no
> challenges or duels that first must be settled?]>  Rihannsu weddings
> were affairs that sometimes could last weeks, as negotiations and
> conflicts waged on, at times decreasing the number of living wedding
> party participants considerably.

Only the sound of the surf answered.

Several seconds passed.  <[This bonding will be unchallenged,]> she finally
said.
"Very well," Father O'Malleyh said, with a wide and relieved smile on his face.  Neither he nor Matthew would be required, or even tempted, to draw swords.

He then launched into a short but eloquent description of the sanctity of the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic view of things, and of eternal bonding within the Rihannsu view of things.  He managed to meld the two nicely, interweaving the different, but not discordant, tenets of each culture.  As he had promised, he kept it brief.

"Matthew Thomas Brennan," he said, after only a moment's pause.  "You have come here today freely, to profess your love for, faith in, dreams of and a desire to build a life with this woman?"

"I have," Matthew told him, his eyes unable to leave Carrhae's.

"And (OOC: Forgive me for not having the full name handy? Please insert here?).  "You, too, have come here today freely to profess your love for, faith in, dreams of and a desire to build a life with this man?"

(eh?)

"And the two of you shall swear before God, the Elements, and those assembled to witness, that nothing - not a person, not circumstances, not miscommunications, not jealousy or frailty, not even the Elements of God themselves, shall be permitted to interpose between you in this union?"

Matt's eyes were still locked in hers.  "We do," he said, knowing she would join him.

(I hope, at least)
