Lorin entered the hearing room, one of several rooms the the Federation
Council had at it's disposal. Inside the room Lorin saw what could be a
nerve wracking sight. A lone table with a pitcher of water and a few
glasses in front of where the Starfleet Oversight Committee would be
seated.

nerve wracking sight. A lone table with a pitcher of water and a few

The room had the air of a court martial or the room at the Academy where
oral exams were taken, and many a cadet faced the annual grilling of a
panel of veteran officers. It was quite imposing.... {OOC: think
committee hearings in Congress, or your local government hearing room}
However, the room was not empty. There were a few aides making the final
preparations, and trio of Ambassadors chatting behind the position where
the entire committee would be seated.
Lorin stayed standing until the Committee sat-then he sad.
Within a few moments, the Chair and the rest of the committee arrived,
and took their seats. The meeting was about to begin.
As the meeting was called to order, the Chair spoke.
"Good afternoon, the Starfleet Oversight Committee of the Federation
Council is now in session. For the record all members are present. The
purpose of this session is to discuss delevopments and the current status
of R&D efforts within Starfleet. Admiral Lorin Renaud has been too kind
to come and answer our questions. Master at Arms, please swear in the
witness."
A Chief Petty Officer approached and swore Lorin in after having him
state his name and rank for the record. He was now under oath.
"Admiral Renaud, do you wish to make an openning statement at this
time?", asked the Chair.
"Federation Council Chair, Members and esteemed guests. Thank you for the
opportunity to speak with you. We are in a time of change. As seen in
recent news reports, we have been attacked at Spacedock as well as having an
attempt made on our Commander-In-Chief's life at the funeral of his son.
This should enrage all of us to take action to further protect our Member
worlds as well as ourselves. I believe my ideas for reforming R&D will
benefit us all if I am given the opportunity to do so. I pledge to work
with all of you to use our technology to benefit us all."
The Ambassador Sharez slid his glassed down off his nose. After closing them, he placed the on the table in front of him. Many wondered if he wore the glasses because they made him look more the politician. In any case, he tended to make heavy use of them as a prop. His antennae curled forward as the meeting slid into full swing. "Thank you, Admiral Renaud for meeting with us. I am sure my fellow committee members appreciate your willingness to come before us. Considering your former positions as Chief of Starfleet Security and your new assignment as head of Research and Development, you can provide us with a great deal of insight into recent events and plans for the future."

(Admiral?)
"Perhaps you could start by explaining some plans that your department have started working on in response to the events you brought up in your own statement."
