Jaime's eyes did not leave the mural, but she seemed to be looking at something far in the distance. "James is the only family I have. Our arents were killed when the colony where we lived was attacked. A 'misunderstanding' over who owned the planet." Her voice dropped as she finished. "We were six."

She took a breath and faced Chase. "Granny raised us. She wasn't a member of the Brotherhood, but she was a sympathizer.Papa's death made her one. James, he's the dedicated one. I pretty much joined because he did."

"I can understand how your family became involved. We are lucky to have folks like you and James on our side."

Jaime shrugged off the compliment as if she didn't feel she deserved it. Then, with a determined smile, she said, "Didn't mean to be maudlin. Doesn't do anybody any good.

"What about you? What brings you into the Brotherhood?"

Chase turned and took a step away from the mural and made his way over to one of the seats and plopped down. He took a deep breath before starting. "My father had been in Starfleet. That meant my mother and I were forced to be dragged around the cosmos while he pursued his career. I got a chance to see first hand what our involvement with other races meant. We were pulled into the Dominion War to protect Bajor and help our allies. Our resources were drained to not only protect these other people, but also to rebuild their worlds after it was done. I watched as my father died after a battle, and it was not even in defense of our own world. I started with the Brotherhood because I wanted to help our government to find a way to make Earth and hre native people a priority."
