Sharez did not seem to be happy with the answer. "Are you saying that such
a set up is common in your department?"
"I am sorry I thought I had clearly laid that out earlier. At this time, we
have one Safety person who has to cover multiple facilities due to the
current structure left over from my predecessor. Until my reorganization of
the department is authorized with additional resources I do not have a
choice, Ambassador. I need more money for projects and personnel." Lorin was
not being a smartass-just honest.
"My apologies, Admiral. I must have misunderstood the situation relating to
the Safety Officers. What percentage increase in FTE's (OOC: full time
equivalents) would your request involve?"
"If I am allowed to combine multiple facilities as I have layed out for
you-I would say 8 new Safety officers. This is a 8% increase. That way I can
shift some of the burned-out current ones into other positions and refresh
our system."
"Eight percent sounds like a small amount. Is it possible that the changes
you are proposing would bring about enough savings to pay for the new Safety
Officer positions?"
Ambassador T'Sar jumped in. "I would think that by merging projects
together, you would be able to illiminate some other jobs. The funds for
those positions could be used to fund an increase in the Safety Officer
numbers."
