can't speculate what incidents of abuse the PDF may be accused of."� Abrams
was not trying to be difficult.� He was under orders from Van Der Loo to
deal with documented facts only when it came to their guests.� All the LCDR
could do is hope that Admiral Jackson would pick up on the subtlty.
Joanna could sense the stress level rising in the room.� It was clear to her
that there was more to what Abrams was saying.� He was hinting at something
more.� "Who would be a good person to talk to about these rumors.� As you
can imagine, any investigation involves checking such things for possible
leads."
"No one here at district.� I would imagine you would be able to find someone
planet side with that information.� Most likely someone that receives and
registers complaints.� They would be able to answer your question."
Joanna leaned back in her chair.� "Could you provide us some examples of
what happened in the incidents that have been investigated?"
"The most common have been assults during interrogations, which are referred
to as over agressive or super agressive interrogations.� Some examples of
what
would fall under that designation would be beatings, administering 'truth
serium' or other drugs to elicit information, umm... mechanical means of
interrogation like the Klingon mind probe device, etc.� Other lesser
complaints have
been beatings or other mistreatment during post capture transport to a
detention facility, and delayed and denial of proper medical care."
It was clear that Abrams was not just speaking of what actually had been
reported- ie the Klingon device.� Perhaps to cover his backside....� He was
trying
to answer the questions posed to him as honestly as he could, but it was
clear that he was given some instruction prior to their arrival.� He was
definately not the bad guy.
Jackson had been listening as Abrams spoke about the complaints.
"Commander, how is your relationship with Admiral Van Der Loo?"
"My title is deputy chief of operations. My responsibilities include
logistics and inter-governmental affairs. But I'm not sure that is what you
are asking for..."
"Did anyone speak to you about how you should answer certain questions from
us or about this topic?"
"In a manner of speaking..."
