"As for Abrams I'm not surprised....Van Der Loo is a control freak. If he isn't in complete control he isn't at all comfortable. What if we could find a way to attack his control system?"

Jared smiled. It would probably be a blow to Van Der Loo's ego if they were able to skirt his spying mechanisms. "To be honest, I am not so worried about Van Der Loo knowing what we are looking for. I am more worried about the fact that he might prevent his people from talking openly with us. We need the information his people have if we are going to get to the root of things."

"Well I am still JAG...I could arrest Abrams for Obstruction of Justice and compel him to talk to us after we offer him immunity. Maybe if he knows he has protection he'll talk...but he does seem like a good guy."

Jared nodded. He had nothing against Abrams. He had a feeling that the junior officer wanted to speak but did not feel that he had the freedom to do so. He would not have given the Admiral the message on the PADD if he didn't want to talk. "While that might work, we are not going to be able to do that with all of Van Der Loo's people."

"There's the old method that you take down a few of the higher-ups and the lower folks will get nervous enough to talk. Or we could temporarily assign him to your command as you are technically overseeing a criminal investigation and can pull rank on Van Der Loo. We need to take away any possibilities of retribution. Or we invite him here to talk."

Joanna had had little to offer since she did not have a strong background in the law. "I can tell you that he wants to talk. It is not going to take too much to convince him to do so if we can guarantee his physical and professional safety from Van Der Loo. He knows that there is something terribly wrong going on in this sector."

(responses?)

Joanna listened as the considered what she had said. "At the same time, I do not think that pulling rank on Van Der Loo will be in the best interest of the investigation. Considering his personality, I think it will just cause him to stonewall, pulling all of his people and resources close to him. It might make finding the information harder."

(response?)

"It might be easier to talk to people on the planet and come up with some irrefutable evidence that will force him to admit some of the problems. Usually, the causes a defence to crumble."
