- -1: I don't think we should have a multi-case --dump switch:

  --dump : human-readable dump as now
  --dump backup : human and machine-readable dump for backup

IMO, that's going to be crufty, supporting both a 0-argument
and 1-argument switch.  (-D in spamassassin is an example: messy).
I suggest we create a new switch for this representation.
