That is the great thing about linux. You don't have to wait two years. There are several linux distros that are as good (if not better) than RedHat. Check out Suse, Mandrake (bankrupt or not the are still open source). If you really want to avoid vendor lock-in compile stuff yourself. I wouldn't say that the users are getting screwed. Like you said "they saved on software at the cost of administration". This is as true now as it was then. Jason
