It may be required by RFC2822, but
- (a) too many legit senders omitted it (!!!)
- (b) spammers stopped making such a basic mistake.
result was that it no longer helped detect spam in any way.
SpamAssassin isn't an "RFC-2822 validity filter", it's a filter
that detects spam ;)
