That's the spirit. And a solid starting place.
But what's to be done about those ISPs who "Do Not wish to be contacted"
Does that mean they're not even willing or interested in getting
the reports??? -- that they won't act on them anyway???
Does that mean I'm wasting my time, copying and pasting 30 to 50 spams
into the SpamCop each morning????
Getting the account turned off ISN'T ENOUGH. They've already established
8 more accounts BEFORE the initial spam even hits my mail box.
I've been calling and following up on many of the really persistent
spam providers... they don't seem to care -- in fact, they seem to
take relish in the fact that they're such a pain in the ass.
You've ALL seen the spam from the guy called "List Source"
who lists four domains and says:
"( if one site is down please try the others )
"( we remove some sites so we don't oversell )

I've gotten 30 of them since January.
I've called the guy at Megspace.com ... they're in Florida, and
easily reachable.
He shrugs his shoulders and says there's nothing he can do about
this spammer. But he knows he's lying.
I get his apologies, and announcement that the spammer is turned OFF
in the same mail with the spammer's next spam listing the Megspace.com
web page AGAIN.
It's almost laughable. And if you follow the links, and forms
results on that guy's site, you see it goes to an email address
in the United Kingdom. I've called THAT guy too. He's proud to
report they're making a killing off that spam, and they wouldn't
change it for nothing.
He wrote me nasty email for trying to get him shut down.
Which I was unable to do.
I've reported them both to the FBI and the IRS for U.S. Tax Evasion.
The other address is in the US -- and EXCITE.com address, but
I need a subpoena to get the contact. Hopefully the IRS will put
the clamps on him.
I had my meeting yesterday with Congress, and they seemed to realize
the damage it's doing. But they also seem helpless and clueless as
to what really to do about it.
If Bill #718 is finally ratified this year, it will be a CLASS 1
Misdemeanor on the State Level, and a Felony on the Federal level
to falsify any part of the email header, or domain name.
That means fines and possible imprisonment.
I get this sick feeling in my gut that even that won't deter
this spam scum. Nothing will happen until the public awareness
has been raised to the point of action, and people like you and
me start taking action against the advertisers themselves.
Each $99 spam list he sells results in 350,000 new spams sent.
Spammers send an average of at least three spams each 'rollout' --
that's 1,050,000 spams. If the low life sells the list a dozen
times he's made $1,200 bucks. But what did it cost US?
That's 12,600,000 spams. If only 1% of those report the
spam to SpamCop tomorrow, that's one-hundred-twenty-six-thousand
emails pasted into SpamCop. It it takes just one second to move
and delete each individual spam email, based on YOUR time being
worth $10 per hour -- that's $ 2,121,000.00 (US Dollars) that the
low-life has STOLEN from the public -- not including bandwidth.
If each single spam takes 30 seconds in its life in your email
client, that's a total of 105,000 HOURS of online time. Just
imagine keeping your computer and modem occupied for 105,000 HOURS...
TWELVE YEARS. Are you doing anyting for the next 12 years?
The sad part is that before that EVEN HAPPENS, he's already
cranked up the next mailing.
The total 'hit' based on an agerage of 8K per email is 1,009,008,000
or over a billion K of throughput. No wonder everyone's crying out
for DSL and "faster" access. The whole system is slowly grinding to
a halt because of unnecessary junk mail.
Sorry for the rant... but I certainly wish someone would come up
with something that will even show the slightest ray of hope
in putting even a small dent in the tsuami of spam.

It's 7:05 AM, and I started filtering my mail boxes
and reporting spam at 4:30 AM this morning. Two and
a half hours of getting steamed over spam -- the same
ones -- over and over and over again.
So, that's it for today.
