Some code which works for almost all browsers and almost all possibilities.
The time it won't work is if javascript is disabled at the same time as
graphics.

NB your html will no longer pass any validation programs / scripts /tests
when you add this javascript because generic code has been used. The
javascript will work on all browsers which support javascript and will be
disabled automatically on browsers which do not support it. It fails
validation because the version and/or language is not fully specified. (Full
specification would limit the compatibility - not what we want!)

=========================
This piece of javascript goes at the top of a page with an email address -
before any email addresses
============================================================================
=========================

<script><!--
   t2='@'+'domainname'+'.com';
   t1='mai'+'lto:';
   function em(t) {document.write("<A HREF=\""+t1+t+t2+"\">"+t+t2+"</A>");}
   //-->
</script>

===========================================================
This piece of script replaces the email address in the html
===========================================================

<script><!--
  em('myname1')//-->
</script>
<noscript>
  <img src="email1.gif">
</noscript>

===========================================================

the above is written for the email address [EMAIL PROTECTED]
a gif file email1.gif contains the image of the email address for non
javascript users
(--
use alt print screen to capture an image from a window and then, paste it
into a graphic program - cut out and save the appropriate part as email1.gif
Or make a small dummy page offline with the correct font colors etc - and
use that with any necessary mask
--)

Note that the domainname.com is split in two so that the spammer doesn't
just start writing to sarah, bill, george, etc @domainname.com. I know that
they could use the domain name from the url but for some bizzarre reason it
helps. Eventually though you will get emails to common names at your domain
(including info) - so don't use them!

Using the above method (and ones like it) I have successfully put SEVERAL
new email addresses on a single page which is visited by spambots frequently
and had no spam! How do I know that it has been visited? When making a
hotel website you advertise on many directories - prior to using this
technique spam would arrive within DAYS! I have sites which have been spam
free for months using the above method.

NB webmaster@.... and postmaster@... get filtered by the spammers who know
NOT to use them - they get killed off too quick otherwise! Such addresses
do not need protection. Spammers do learn it seems - but only when it
hurts!
