Hello Charlie, I have read your post mentioned above and I have to say that you guys make things more complicated that they need to be. I think you are trying to find the golden solution to a problem that doesn't have such one and having the reminder syncing disabled in current versions of SpanningSync most likely limits your market.
I would buy SpanningSync if it had the reminder syncing. There is no point for me having my calendars synced between Google and iCal if the reminders are being 'lost' in translation, the whole point of having calendars synced in the first place. I think some users have suggested some decent and workable solutions how you can solve this problem. Just allow users to specify what iCal event type they want to map to what Google event type for what calendar. A note on this preference page that only the first two reminders will be synced will address the 'problem' of 2 != 5, ie iCal supporting 'only' two reminders whereas Google supports five. I hardly can think of any decent use for more than two reminders. I guess most users are using one, maybe two. The excessive option of having up to five reminders in Google should not be a reason for SpanningSync not to handle any of the reminders at all! In order to address the 'easy of use' concern, which is raised in the other post, you could provide a default mapping in the preferences, ie by default for all synced calendars, iCal message with sound/message will map to Google pop-up (and vice versa) and an iCal email event type will map to a Google email event. Full stop. If users wish to to change that, it's their choice to pick the right mapping. So far I believed Google Calendar does not allow to sync reminders but after coming across BusySync I realised that the limitations does not lie with Google but within SpanningSync. I'd like to use SpanningSync because I think it's more suited for the job than BusySync and it also does sync contact photos which no other sync tool does at the moment, even the built in sync support by Mac OS X's Address Book does not do that. >From my professional software development career I can say that it's not always possible to come up with *the* golden solution but that you will be required to come up with a workable compromise that will fit most user's needs. Reaching 100% user's satisfaction would be an illusion but certainly should be the aim, though. :-) Looking forward to hear your thoughts. Thanks...
