What exactly is showing the 900MB? RSIZE, VSIZE, etc. Also, do you have the developer tools installed? If so, there's a program called heap (/usr/bin/heap) that can tell you (and us) exactly where that memory is going. Also, /usr/bin/leaks will tell you if there are any leaks.
