We've found and fixed a problem that affected some users upgrading to
Spanning Sync 3 which duplicated all contacts and inserted unusual
characters into contact names and addresses in Address Book. The users
affected had been using the "Preserve Address Book Data" compatibility
mode in the older version.

If you have duplicates of all of your contacts in Address Book, you
can restore your Address Book database to its pre-install state by
following the instructions in the "Restoring to Pre-Install State"
section of the User's Guide at http://spanningsync.com/help/#preinstall-restore.
You can then sync normally.

Please note that if you were using the "Gmail Compatibility Mode" of
Spanning Sync v2.1.3 you might still see some duplicates. This is due
to recently-introduced bug in Google Contact's name parser. We're in
touch with Google and are optimistic they'll fix the problem o their
end soon.

In the mean time, the Google Contacts API will fail to properly parse
names with titles, compound names, etc. (e.g., "Dr. Hans Peter
Schulz"), which will result in duplicates in Address Book. To fix
them, just delete the erroneous contact (e.g., the one whose first
name is "Dr.", middle name is "Hans", and last name is "Peter
Schultz") and sync. Spanning Sync will clean up the bad data under the
covers, and the problem shouldn't appear again in normal syncing.

We apologize to those of you inconvenienced by this bug. If you run
into any problems applying the recommended fixes or have any
questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at
[email protected].

Regards,
Charlie
