I've just noticed a related problem involving System Preferences and
SS 3. (Just upgraded to MacOS 10.6 this week).

My syncing etc. are all working fine, working as before, but what is
new is, whenever I invoke a 'sync now' from the menu bar icon, SS does
what it's supposed to, but does not seem to 'release' System
Preferences. That is, SysPref shows as active (white button next to
it on the dock), but I cannot get the window to appear, or otherwise
access SysPref at all. Using 'Force Quit...' from the menu bar on
SysPref kills it, and all is well.

This behaviour is also noted whenever I access the SS preference icon
in the System Preferences pane, even if no changes are made, or no
sync performed. When I close out SystemPreferences, it still shows as
active on the dock, and in 'Force Quit...'

Interestingly, in Force Quit, it does not red out the entry for System
Preferences and indicate 'not responding', typical for hung
applications.

I nosed about in Console, and could not find anything amiss: no
crashes of any sort, hangs, or even console messages from spanning
sync or system preferences to indicate anything was going wrong. As
far as I can tell from the system level, SystemPreferences is still
active and happy. Perhaps SS is not 'releasing' SystemPreferences
when it completes a task?

I can be fairly certain that there is NOT anything else amiss in the
Mac, given its pedigree and what's been installed, etc.

Here's a typical sync event occurring from console. I think! Am just
digging into this.
