For me, it's the support. I've been using Spanning Sync since beta and any time there's been a problem their response is quick and efficient. Not to say there haven't been headaches here and there, many of them on Google's end -- but I really appreciate having Spanning Sync as a buffer between me and Google. Try getting any kind of support out of Google when a sync goes awry and see how that goes for you. As much as I rely on my calendars, $15/year is very easy to justify for the peace of mind of knowing I have someone to e-mail if things get weird.
