I have the same error. Installed the update this morning, now I get the "could not load spanning sync preference pane" error.
Running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro 5,1. Lifetime subscriber. Tried downloading and installing Spanning Sync 3.2 a second time, no change.
