Hmmm. I don't think that it should surprise any of us that there have been
recent layoffs at Allaire. There have been two rounds of layoffs at many of
the large consulting and tech firms in the last three months. Moreover,
Macromedia is a publicly traded company and has most likely fully disclosed
any information regarding the 'down sizing' of their staff.

I would be surprised if Spectra was discontinued, but I would be even more
surprised to see a Spectra product left unchanged by the merger. Adaptation
is important, and both Allaire and Macromedia came to the table with lots to
offer. Imagine the power of UltraDev and CFStudio combined into one product.
In short (too late) who cares if the tools change as long as they are good
and accomplish what our clients need?

Subject: RE: Discontinuation of Spectra????

I'm not trying to continue rumors just asking the community if anyone has
heard anything to confirm or deny what I heard from a "downsized" Account
Manager. It seems strange to me a merged company Macromedia/Allaire would
have 2 commerce and content management systems (Spectra 1.5 and Project
Whirlwind) and fund another content management company (Macromedia Ventures
- Context Media). Hence I am just looking for some facts and some direction
from the company before I spend time and money traveling down the lines of
what could be a dead product.

Please let me know if anyone has heard anything beyond what I have.

For those interested in Macromedia's recorded content management efforts see

deployment. Based on an open architecture, Project Whirlwind is being
designed to work with existing enterprise infrastructures, handle
next-generation Web requirements, and integrate seamlessly with leading
