I can confirm this. This new performance and memory management was added
to Intel/Linux, but not Solaris.
Some additional info:

Scroll down to "Enhanced Performance and Memory Management", and it's
labeled "Automatic Memory Footprint Reduction". I was amused by this
(reversion to previous behavior) labeled as a feature, but hey, that's
the world of sales, isn't it.
