The -cmdb switch uses a pre-defined xml config file used for CMDB
Spectrum model attributes to CMDB attributes. This can be customized to
match your environment. The export from spectrum time depends on how
many models and attributes you are exporting. I have around 30k, an
entire spectrum export takes about 10 minutes, but no impact to logged
on users. The CMDB import takes about the same amount of time.

I set all of the export options to true. The real power is using the
CMDB for the relationship mapping and then presenting the relationships
using the CMDB Visualizer.

Also having the information in Service Desk allows you to integrate
spectrum alerts to Service Desk Incidents, Requests, Problems and Change
Orders using ITIL v3 as the framework. Then you can easily keep track of
CI tickets, like how many times did a NIC have errors, how many times
did a server's disk utilization exceed a spectrum threshold, etc....

Subject: Spectrum CMDB Export Command

Hi Jay,

I just read your post on the Spectrum list and I am planning to do my
first export using the modeling gateway toolkit for the exact same
reason. I would like to import my Spectrum discovered models into the
CA CMDB Service Desk to update my CIs.

Do you have any advice or did your experience any issues while doing
this?

I noticed that in your command "bash-3.2$ ./modelinggateway.bat -vnm
servername -cmdb -e cmdb-export" you included -cmdb in it. What does
that do? I was just going to use:

            bash-3.2$ ./modelinggateway.bat -vnm servername -e
outputfile.xml

In the ExportConfiguration section on the
SS-Tools/.modelinggatewayresource.xml file I set all the options to
"False" except for export_devices. Does this sound right?

Just a couple of more questions; do your exports take a long time and
does it affect the logged in users? Unfortunately we do not have a test
environment so I am kind of hesitant to try it on our production
Spectrum server.

I don't manage the UniCenter CMDB so I was just going to provide them
with the file for them to work on the import.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

I'm using the CMDB Spectrum Export command on 9.x successfully. This
allows you to export Spectrum discovered models and import them on the
CA CMDB for Service Desk CI data population. I was wondering if there is
a command switch that allows you to export on certain models or models
in a global collection? Right now the command exports every model. The
command I'm using is below on the Spectro server.

bash-3.2$ ./modelinggateway.bat -vnm servername -cmdb -e cmdb-export
