Yes - if the device was selected, only then change the attribute value NOT the field text (the device will keep the new attribute value). "Is the attribute the same attribute as the Notes field shown out-of-the-box?" Yes - the same attribute. I guess it can be done via editing "view-devicedetails-config.xml" but I can't figure the code. If you want simply all pingables to have notes set to "I'm a pingable" then select one of the pingables, open attribute editor, edit notes attribute and mark "set as default" - from now on all (new) pingables get the notes field set as desired. Auto-set attributes can also be done with a policy in Policy Manager... ...but if I did not understand right try to enlighten me.
