You're not alone. I have had very bad luck with all the cubes commonly available on the market today. To my knowledge, there are four: 1) 25th AV with white stickers, hexagon package 2) 25th AV with white stickers, on card 3) 25th AV with silver stickers, on card 4) a few leftover Oddzon cubes with a non-anniversary sticker.
Of the first three, I have bought and bought and bought. Only about 1/4 of the ones I buy are acceptable for speedcubing with minimal preparation. The other 3/4 are so tight and uneven that I give up any hope of breaking them in. So no, I do not find that any one of the three is any better on average than the others. I have a small sample size on #4 (one cube) but it was so tight I could barely turn it. You'd think silicone would save the day, but it made it even WORSE. I've heard at least two posters say that if you are willing to work with tight cubes for long enough, eventually they will get looser. As for me, I try to find a store with a liberal return policy, because I can't wait that long! > --- In [email protected], "alexhassoap" > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > I just bought two cubes at Target, they were actually $7 since > there > > was a sale (orig. $10), but these cubes are really bad! > > They're the 25th anniversary type, with the shiny white stickers. > I'm > > really frustrated, as I've actually slid playing cards into all the > > slots and kept them there for a couple hours, and now I'm putting > > cards to try stretching the springs too.
