Hi Stefan,
  Nowadays, finding out mate in 3 or 4 or even 5 is a childs play even when all 
the pieces are on the board. They know exactly what to look for and where to 
look  etc ? 
  If you know all the basic end games in chess, it is a cat's walk!!
