Hello Benoit

Thanks for your suggestions. I have followed them :-

No , SMP is disabled and it's a single CPU PC [Pentium-166].

OK I have now tried pppd-2.4.0.

I'm not sure.

No, it is a serial one. SpeedTouch is my only USB device.

OK I have managed to make a connection after removing persist option in
/etc/ppp/peers/adsl.

Here is extract from /var/log/messages :-

[Both ADSL and USB lights were green on SpeedTouch. I could ping hosts on
Internet OK.
DNS resolution was working fine too].

Then I tried a large ftp download of a kernel distribution [about 22 MB] and
after two minutes,
my machine locked up. ADSL light on SpeedTouch is now out, USB light
flashing red -:(

The entry from /var/log/messages is

Oct 25 20:12:04 localhost kernel: hub.c: already running port 1 disabled by
hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
Oct 25 20:12:04 localhost kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 2

claim interface 1 before use
Oct 25 20:12:04 localhost kernel: usbdevfs: process 1041 (modem_run) did not
claim interface 0 before use

I have an add-in USB card on PCI bus, It uses OHCI controller.

I have seen other (French) guys on this list reporting modem hangup under
ftp download.
Now I think that perhaps I see the same problem. Perhaps as suggested this
is a USB
bug ??

regards

Graeme
