Async mode is a pppd mode where we don't need hdlc anymore, this is useful if you want not to patch your <2.4.18 kernel. Look at the doc-linux/adsl.ppp-peersample for more details to activate this mode correctly. But this code uses more cpu as it has to "translate" the ascii stream coming from pppd. This code has been included in pppoa3 because Tim had experienced some problems with some URLs and tested if it could be able to solve the problem.
