That only means your pppoatm is built in kernel, and not as a module. I
have the same message, and my connection is finally correct. But I'm
interested in a solution for not having this message.

Stop all the other services, and especially the network service, to
explore your problem, and send /var/log/* issues to help the list find out
what your problem is.

PS : the LFS page is great, I personnaly have a LFS 6.0 in progress, and
the hint went fine for me. I just had a problem with a default gateway
which prevented me from reaching the Internet. I'll investigate this to
enhance the BLFS book and the hint.
