You can stop pppd trying to modprobe pppoatm by editing the source. Untar
ppp-2.4.3
and edit ppp-2.4.3/pppd/plugins/pppoatm/pppoatm.c and remove (or comment out)
line

Of course, you should only do that if you've built pppoatm into the kernel. If
you
choose to compile it as a module you may need pppd to modprobe it. The error
message
is harmless, as others have said
