I just installed Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog on a dual-boot system with Windows XP. The instructions for getting my Speedtouch 330 to work on Ubuntu (jeez! how complicated is this?) say that a firmware update is needed. Before I do this, I need reassurance that this will not change the way my modem works with XP. I'm a bit surprised this question hasn't been asked before (or if it has, I couldn't find it!). I'm also wondering why changes are needed to the modem firmware to make it work with Linux.
