Well, I think the best thing to do is to work out why it hangs and fix it. Could you please do the following: (1) Boot your computer with the modem plugged in. Watch the lights on the modem. Do they blink? What color and which led? When your computer hangs, note down the last message printed on the screen. Then hit alt-sysrq-t, followed by alt-sysrq-s. Was anything printed on the screen? (2) Reboot your computer without the modem plugged in. Note down the first message after the message you noted down above. Look in your system logs - hopefully the alt-sysrq-t you did above dumped a big stack trace in your logs. If so, please send it. Now plug in the modem (with the computer already booted). Does your computer hang? What messages do you see in your system logs? Does the modem work? Do you see a message in your system logs containing the word Oops? Thanks a lot, D.
