I have to restart the machine to get the link back. Here are relevant dmesg
lines after failure today:

PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
ATM dev 0: ADSL line is up (1152 kb/s down | 288 kb/s up)
ATM dev 0: error -110 fetching device status
Other details:
Linux 2.6.14.2, x86_64, smp preempt.
Silver modem.

Is this a known issue?
Is there anything I can do to reestablish the link without rebooting the
machine?
