I've just done a clean install of Fedora Core 5 and have been trying to get
my Speedtouch 330 working but without success.

I followed the instructions at
http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/fedora/index.html using the steps
appropriate for PPPoA.

When the ppp0 interface attempts to come up I get the following in the
messages log file:

Sep 21 00:12:00 router pppd[2829]: Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.

Sep 21 00:12:00 router pppd[2829]: PPPoATM plugin_init

Sep 21 00:12:00 router pppd[2829]: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38

Sep 21 00:12:00 router pppd[2829]: pppd 2.4.3 started by root, uid 0

Sep 21 00:12:01 router pppd[2829]: failed to create socket: Address family
not supported by protocol

Sep 21 00:12:01 router pppd[2829]: Exit.

Sep 21 00:24:14 router adsl-connect: ADSL connection lost; attempting
re-connection.

This then repeats itself over and over.

I can't be sure if my firmware is being loaded properly as I haven't found a
way to tell yet. I placed the two firmware files in /lib/firmware as the
instructions said, but I also haven't been able to work out what process
accesses those files to load the firmware. I've just blindly put the files
in that location.

My ISP is Eclipse in the UK.

A previous build of Redhat 9 using pppoa3 and modem_run worked fine on the
same computer.

I saw some mention that the "failed to create socket" error was related to
lack of ATM support. Indeed I can't find a pppoatm module anywhere, but I
thought that the standard Fedora core 5 kernel would include ATM support
compiled in. Is there any way to check?

Can anyone offer any advice as to why it's not working or what I should do?
Was there a package I needed to install but didn't?

Thanks

James
