Happy Birthday :-) Hopefully you aren't spending any of it reading this.

Care to update the documentation with examples? I have no clue about
latex whatsoever.

Alternatively if Sphinx is going to switch to rst2pdf then I'd rather
the effort went into that. A good feature it has is the ability to
shrink blocks that are too large rather than making a mess like latex does.

The Sphinx doc for that makes no sense to me. Again if rst2pdf is going
to be used then ignore.

Firstly I don't know what the "standard p{width} construct" is. Is that
a Sphinx, latex of rst thing? (Whichever it should be linked.) The
second sentence includes "hard to determine correctly automatically" and
then proceeds to tell me all the ways I can say for it to be determined
automatically! The warning at the bottom is pure gobbledygook for
someone who knows nothing of latex!

If there was some sort of hortizontal list markup that automatically
used the space available then that would be very useful. A vertical
list would be extremely wasteful.

Hard to detect that it should be switched off, or hard to switch off if
you know you should. The former is pretty easy with heuristics or a
directive.
