Should be the same as in my 76. I don't have picture but the ones in the Haynes and
Bently are correct if you have them. They should be the same orientation if you go in
a circular fashon I believe. I'll double check when I get home. I can always scan the
picture if you'd like.

In fact I had the drums off checking and adjusting the brakes at the rear at the
weekend, but never looked at that. Big difference in teh travel when you adjust them
right. I had forgotten to adjust them after they had bedded in since I fitted new
shoes when I rebuilt the complete system.

Subject: Brake shoe orientation

What is the correct orientation of rear brake shoes in a 77 Spitfire?
Obviously, the one the handbrake lever contacts can only go one way, but
what of the other one? Handbrake hole up or down? When I bought my car
seven years ago (seems hard to imagine I have had it this long) it had them
one up, one down. That's how I have always replaced them. But this past
weekend, I stripped the hubs from my low mileage parts car to replace a hub
on mine, and the shoes where in there BOTH up. I am reasonably confident
that this car had never had it's brakes replaced.

So which is the right way? Or does it not matter?
