I was going to cut my single rail shifter, with OD switch, and weld the top part to the bottom part of my 3-rail shifter. Since shifters with the OD knob and switch are not real common or cheap, I thought about putting a toggle switch on the 3-rail shifter, just below the knob. Sorta like a truck with 2-speed axle.
While sorting this out, I realized I don't know how a Spit OD works. Do you go thru all four gears, then 3rd OD and 4th OD, or do you split third and fourth? I pulled a backhoe with a 5-speed 2-speed axle truck for a while. One day the boss said, take the white truck and tilt trailer. He failed to mention it was a 10 speed roadranger trans. I barely made it to the shop from the yard. When I told him the truck was screwed up, he's like, you never drove a roadranger before?
