This was the major source of my rattles. Also - cracks can develop in the bonnet sheet metal reinforcing at the front, in and around the wheel wells. Hard to spot unless you try flexing the bonnet slightly while it is open. Seems to be a weak point as both of my Spitfires had this damage - then again, they had both been dented on the nose as well ! Mark Sinclair

If it is the wrong diameter [too loose] or too short, the bonnet will rattle and vibrate at the front even at idle.
