Hello,

You may still be able to buy a set of replacement
rubber bits for the flex joint. I have also
heard of people improvising with rubber faucet
washers.

I have never heard of a real U-joint being sold for
that application. Since the shaft is in a perfectly
straight line, a U-joint would not really be
necessary.

BTW, to remove the flex coupling from the shafts, you
have to completely remove the clamping bolts. (Ask me
how I learned this...)

Before tearing everything apart, make sure that
the telescoping shaft clamp under the dash is not
loose, and giving you the impression that the flex
coupling is messed up when it really isn't.
You should read up in the correct procedure for
adjusting this, since it is a safety item that
allows the shaft to collapse instead of skewering
you in an accident. The clamp also controls
the fore-and-aft positing of the steering wheel
relative to the outer steering column and the turn
signals. If you do not adjust things right, the
rear surface of the steering wheel can rub against
the end of the column and mess up the wiring for
the horn button.

Good Luck,
