I have sprint extreme's 2.5" drop w/ stock struts, and
it's drivable, and works fine for my set up.  I'm also
set up for show.  If you do decide to get struts
later, you will most likely be eating the cost of
alignment again after replacing the struts.  

I say the're not necessary, but the race-minded folk
of this list may disagree...
