Actually Saturn knows about this sound if it is in fact the same one I have
heard, at least Saturn of Seekonk does. It affects 96 and newer, at least
till 99 (I think yours is a 98, right?) My 99 made a noise like that since
I bought it, I always thought it was the overflow, but it turns out that it
is the heater core. You should be able to hear it most easily if you let
the car idle for a bit and then rev the motor slighly, it sounds just like
you described it.
My 96 just recently started making the noise, its not a problem, just one of
those sounds that you will always have once it starts making it. As long as
your heat works you should be fine.
The dealership advised me that it wouldn't be worth it to replace.
Maybe one of the dealer guys on the list can shed some light on this, if
they have even heard about this one...
