I have to provide a bit of background to the list about this post. A few
(very few) of you know that I use A&I in Los Angeles for Kodachrome
processing. To those few, I should explain why I know anything about Kodak
at Dallas.

Back in October, I mailed 3 - PK 36 mailers to Dallas for processing. The
reason being that I don't like to ship exposed rolls to A&I in onesies and
twosies. These were of no great consequence, but I wanted them to be souped.

I received two yellow boxes in about a week's time. The third didn't show
up. All three were mailed the same day, October 21. On November 10, I
wrote a letter to "Customer Service" at Dallas inquiring about the missing
roll. Frankly, because of Kodak's problems, I figured that roll was
history. Miracle of miracles, today, January 9, a lady from Dallas called
me to tell me about my missing roll. It turned out that the return address
had gotten wet or smeared with something; it was illegible. She
apologized profusely about not contacting me sooner. She said that she
received my letter on January 6.

Now, the meat of the message. This lady tells me that Dallas no longer
processes Kodachrome, period! Dallas also no longer processes any mailers
for E-6 or print film. Any mailer recieved by Dallas is transshipped to
Fair Lawn, NJ or "other" labs. I specifically asked about Kodachrome
delivered to retail outlets in the southwest that have been processed at
Dallas. Fair Lawn or "other" labs she says. I then asked if Dallas is
closing (Terry Chickwak mentioned this earlier). The lady is horrified!
She hasn't heard any such thing. Of course, Kodak wouldn't tell the
little people until the week before the end. I told her that it was only a
rumor and not to worry. (Yeah, right. But one has to try to be diplomatic
after putting the foot in the mouth).

So, Kodachrome mailer users; you might start thnking about addressing your
mailers to 16-31 Route 208 in Fair Lawn, NJ. I don't know of another Kodak
game in town.
