We shoot trains, we don't shoot trains!

Just because we live in the US does not mean we all carry and/or own guns.

During almost 35 years of railfanning, There never was a time where a gun
would have come in handy. From the time I was 12 years old, I was
travelling to neiborhoods considered dangerous in Chicago via public
transport. I have wandered through other places considered dangerous like
South America, Russia, Africa, Newark and..... (this list continues) No one
has ever assaulted me in any way. I am not saying that it doesn't happen,
but things are not as dangerous out there as the media would have us
belive. Of course, in the West, most people carrying firearms do so to
shoot wildlife. This is another hobby (one that I won't participate) and I
can not comment on that. As for protection from wildlife, it is unlikely
that a gun would be nesessary. I have had a few close calls like this, but
the animal has always run away.

Second: Having a gun invites trouble, you do not want to be caught
tresspassing with one. This will cause lots of problems with officers of
the law.

Sorry, I am a pacifist and this subject struck a nerve.

Regards,
Steve (I dont carry guns or saws) Brown
