Although I agree - it is pretty pathetic that more subscribers won't participate in the SOTM feature, we have overlooked those who are participating. Only Dave knows who the people are that vote, but based on the photo credits on the page and the names that appear frequently in the subscriber mailings, I could probably make some pretty good guesses. The people that seem to be participating are the true "Serious" photographers - the ones for whom this site is intended. When someone subscribes to SPORRS, we have no way of knowing who they are or why they subscribed. If they had no intention of participating in anything from the start, then it is unreasonable for us to expect anything from them. If this is the case, then you must question why they subscribed, but unless we could screen people (which we can't) this will always occur. My point in all this is that I value quality more than quantity. It would mean more to me if my photo won SOTM with only 4 or 5 votes from "SERIOUS" photographers, than if it won with 20 votes from web surfer railfans who subscribed but don't understand what subscribing means and surely have no concept of the fundamentals of photography. Maybe there are only 20-30 "Serious Photographers of Railroad Related Subjects" out there !!
