Of course there is technology for everything these days, but by moving
beyond the simple choice of negative or slide (based on the immediate usage
need), we are getting off track and beyond the scope of this list for most
of the people that subscribe to it. By going to film recorder services, we
are getting quite specialized here, and in the process, most likely losing
most of this list's readers interest here.

If we want to talk about film technology and all of its options today, then
there are other mailing lists for this which would be much better for those
topics because that is what those lists were intended for. Just keep in
mind that SPORRS is a railroad photographer's list, and most people on it
are only going to shoot slides to project, send in for publication (and
some people trade), but some may still be interested in other technology.
I don't mind mentioning it, and even explaining it a bit from time to time,
but I really don't think that most people on this list want to go through
the expense of converting film from one type to another, via digital or
whatever reasons, just to get another type of film when most of us don't
need or want to start with one just to get another.

Yes, I do, and film recorder services are not cheap, and you still end up
with a dupe, which, publishers frown upon (most won't accept dupes of any
kind for publication - they have to scan them again). There is no
substitute for an original, so there is no sense purposely duping to
another type just to show the technology, unless you actually need to alter
the irreplaceable image in the process (hopefully justifies the expense),
or to do a trade show demo to sell the technology.

Dave
