Danny,

I have been very happy using both the 1.4 and 2.0 Canon teleconverters with
all of the the Canon lenses from my 70-200mmL2.8 to the 400mmL2.8. The
only thing I am able to detect as a loss when using them is the one or two
F stops. This can be critical with slower lenses and faster trains.

I have even tried using them together with a 12mm extension tube between
them. The results on the 400mm lense is an incredible 1120mm all but the
loss of focusing to infinity. But a remarkable closeup from a long way
off. Far enough away that the closeup included the entire train, not
cropping in on part of it.

I do believe that teleconverters will show off the quality or lack there
of, of the lense quicker than anything else. Therefore, if you are dealing
with less than professional quality lenses, the lack of sharpness, or
softness will be multiplied.
