As a result of my post last week mentioning damaged slides, I have received
a few private messages asking how I remove fingerprints from slides.

I have a bottle of "Kodak Film Cleaner" which contains "heptane and
halogenated hydrocarbons". I have had this bottle for years and the stuff
really does work for removing a true fingerprint. The directions say to
use a piece of "soft, lint-free cloth such as Canton flannel or deep-pile
hard surface textiles". It says to clean with "straight-line strokes and
light pressure. Any final streaking can be removed by a gentle polishing
with a clean, dry piece of surgical cotton". While I will only use this as
a last resort to save a slide, it does seem to remove fingerprints with no
visible effects to the slide. My guess is that this product from Kodak is
no longer available because of its carcinogenic contents. The price tag is
still on the 4 oz. bottle.....$1.10. That kind of says how long I have had
it. When have you been able to buy ANYTHING retail from a camera store for
$1.10?

How do other SPORRS members remove offending fingerprints from slides? Or
am I the only one this seems to happen to <g>?
