We did this for a project in Mexico based on the owner's Fire and Safety
Rep. Directive. He was afraid that if one run-in was damaged they would
have no FP for that zone. That was his only reasoning.

If someone hits one with a backhoe and they're side by side, chances are
they'll hit both. So no real value there. Sometimes a secondary feed
to a manifold serving several areas has been recommended by an
Underwriter but the secondary feed was from another direction to
minimize potential disruption due to an impairment and the manifold
served up to 5 systems.

Subject: Duplicate run-in

I have a client that wants a duplicate run-in. What I mean is two
parallel run-ins, each with a PIV going to serve the same sprinkler
riser. I have never done this before and I know FM (insured) and NFPA
do not advocate this kind of arrangement. Has this ever been done
before and if so why? I am trying to respond that I don't think it is a
worth while investment to "ensure" continuous water supply.

Thank you,
