I use the SMaRTools (Hydratec product). I have done one project with it and we found that the beta release didn't play well with ACAD 2007 so I had to convert my drawing to Solid pipes. Solidpipes worked great for collision detection using NavisWorks. I am 3D modeling for another project now using the full release but haven't tested the 3D pipe against ACAD 2007 or NavisWorks. I still convert to Solidpipes. Anybody else using this?

Hydracad has recently come out with an add-on to their package to create 3d objects from their 2d drawings. We haven't gotten it working yet, probably because I'm running hydracad under ABS, but the good folks at Hydratec are working with me on it. As I understand it, HCad will create 3d autocad solids, which you should have no trouble inserting into an ABS drawing, just don't expect the automatic collision detection in ABS to work with it as it won't be 3d ABS piping, but ACAD solids. See www.hydracad.com for the real skinny. I bet if you call they'll be glad to talk to you about it even if you're not a customer. What we have is AutoCAD ABS and what the team is looking for is a 3d AutoCAD compatible file that can be imported into AutoCAD 2007. That's about all the information I have right now. So what I'm looking for is information on the sprinkler design packages out there with the ability to export a 3d model. Thanks for the info so far, every little bit helps, Craig L. Craig, It may depend on what you are trying to do as a "team". To produce the drawings in 3d in AutoSprink is standard procedure but AutoSprink uses objects in its drawings where AutoCAD uses lines and attributes. I will email you off-line with a contact person that can answer that question with accuracy. Got a question for all those DESIGNERS out there. How many contractors have the capability or have produced their designs in 3D? We've got a major project where the mgmt. team is expecting all the contractors to submit their installation drawings to us in 3d AutoCAD compatible format for import into our 3d package. Is this a big deal with HydraCad and AutoSprink or not? Need some input. Thanks, Craig L.
