Our AHJ is currently requiring a lot of "Dry Manual Horizontal Standpipes" Similar to your Dry system. We use DIP or C900 for the underground portion, sloped to one end. We require flanged DIP for the risers. At the low point we use a saddle on the bottom of the pipe or a corp tap, reduced to for a curb stop or valve in an Irrigation box (For access) then a ball drip into a dry well. The curb stop or ball valve in the irrigation box is normally open allowing condensation to drain by the ball drip. When the FD pressurizes the main the ball drip closes, just like at the FDC, or not! and the FDP pumper either overcomes the additional 1/2" of flow or closes the valve in the irrigation box or curb stop.

That is the other problem. These problems are not being considered by
the people who are saying that it is the "only option". It is a simple
answer to them, "just run it underground".

The answer is, dunno. Maybe we would have some sort of pit??

How do you propose to drain the system?

I've got a outdoor amphitheatre that needs sprinkler protection. The
only option allowed to get from the controls (adjacent heated building)

galvanized pipe for the dry system for the amphitheatre.

The question is what pipe should I spec for the dry underground? Can
(should) I use galvanized? Do you sleeve it? Any other suggestions?
